At First Providence Missionary Baptist Church, we have a simple hope: to see people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. For 60 years, we've been helping spread God's good news here in the city of Long Beach and the surrounding communities. We pray that God will continue to use our congregation. Whether you've been attending church for years or haven't stepped into a sanctuary in decades before and even after the pandemic, we hope you'll come and join us Sunday if you're looking for a church home.
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible to be inspired of God and they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life. We believe in One God eternally existing in Three Persons; God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit. As a Church, we believe that The First Providence Missionary Baptist Church is composed of all born-again believers, beginning at the day of Pentecost and continuing through to the end of this present age. Based on our statement of faith, the unified church will in Heaven be the bride of Christ. We believe that the born-again believers have voluntarily united together for the purposes of worshipping God, ministering to the saints, fellow believers, evangelizing and discipling new believers.
During the service, you'll hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, prayers we offer up, and our pastor's preaching. All parts of our service are grounded in the Bible, which we are committed to upholding. Our statement of faith is in our Church Covenant that is widely used as a voluntary agreement by members in the Baptist Church. Our Pastor, Artis T. Lanier, Jr. and Lady Valeria Lynn Lanier are two people who are sold-out for God. They are not your typical Pastor and Wife. They are nifty, trendy, and in sync with the Lord, Jesus Christ. Their thoughts and actions concerning family and the lives that God has given them to Shepherd are on the same vibe and frequency.
Pastor Lanier taught his children to be leaders. He teaches and encourages the congregation and the who-so-ever wills to be leaders while being followers of Christ. Lady Lanier is in unity with her husband and her Pastor. She possesses the anointed gift of a nurturer while being a distinguished Christian leader.
